Our Own Alphabet

In celebration of their centenary, The State Library of New South Wales is releasing a typeface comprised of elements taken from items within their catalogue.

For each letter in the project, there is a summary of the texts and objects which have been used to create it, which is a great way of publicising the libraries’ collection.

Working closely with the State Library, Design agency Frost* came up with a way to take fragments of visuals of our collections and compose them into letters of the alphabet. This creative process began with O, U and T, and so began our campaign to take the Library OUT into the community.

You’re going to listen for a bit. Appreciate the silence. And here comes a dreamy, minimalist tune to complement your hot chocolate and wintery view. As short as Bearing Sails is, the brevity makes it almost an appetizer for what’s to come.

Mandi Tully has just started on the path to musical success, but any of her songs on Myspace leave no doubt that she’s going somewhere.

Teux Deux or not Teux Deux

Normally when the first thing I read about in the morning is another To-Do app I feel queasy. The market of GTD apps and productivity boosters is pretty well saturated.

Teux Deux feels like a breath of fresh air. It looks a bit like a breath of fresh air as well. It does what a lot of To-Do apps don’t. It just does To-Do’s.

The juggling act of dealing with tags, contexts, lists, sub-lists, projects becomes a project in itself. Perhaps that system of anal organisation works for some – but I think designers will respond to the simplicity and ease of Teux Deux, which conveniently enough is its intention.

Personally, I think it’s going to work extremely well in conjuction with the 18 Minute Plan.

Teux Deux was designed by swiss miss and built by Fictive Kin.

I started using Teux Deux at the end of last week, and think it’s awesome. My handwritten to-do lists always go astray.

“Confessions on Life, Death and God” is a Post Secret video by Frank Warren shot on Canon’s 5d Mark II using a 28-75mm zoom lens.

I’m addicted to the picture, the light is wonderful in parts and these two are my favorite. I have to wonder whether they were actually shot in this order or the other way round? Watch the video and see what you think.

This is a sweet sounding track by London born Australian, Lisa Mitchell. Google tells me she was on Australian Idol, but I think that can be forgiven.

This time last year I fell in love with this song, just rediscovered it. The real cover art is pretty average, so this is my own version.
